Funds are available to encourage kids take steps together with their friends to help the planet. The Friends for Change Grants will fund kids' projects that help the environment and will look to engage children ages 5-18 as leaders in their communities. Maximum grant size: $500.

US Department of Health and Human Services - Supplemental Services for Recently Arrived Refugees Grant
Deadline: February 24, 2010
The US Department of Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement is accepting applications for funding for Supplemental Services for Recently Arrived Refugees to provide services to arriving refugees or sudden and unexpected large secondary migration of refugees where communities are not sufficiently prepared in terms of linguistic or culturally appropriate services. Up to $500,000 will be awarded to up to 20 applicants.

Tony Hawk Foundation - Public Skatepark Grants

The purpose of the Tony Hawk Foundation is to foster lasting improvements in society, with an emphasis on supporting and empowering youth. The Foundation is currently offering funding to build high-quality, public skateparks in low-income areas throughout the United States. The Foundation will fund proposals that have a strong grassroots commitment to the project, include skaters in the design, are designed and built by qualified and experienced contractors, and have a creative mix of street obstacles and transition/vert terrain. Awards range between $1,000 and $25,000. Proposed projects must be in low-income areas, areas with at risk youth, and where there are no other skateparks.

Finish Line Youth Foundation - Youth Athletic Program Grants

The Finish Line Youth Foundation provides grants to organizations focusing on youth athletic programs. Specifically, the foundation wishes to fund community-based programs that address active lifestyles and team building skills to children, especially to disadvantage and special needs children.
Grants range from $1,000 to $5,000 each. All 501(c)(3) youth athletic organizations are eligible to apply.

American Academy of Dermatology - Shade Structure Grants
Deadline: April 12, 2010
The American Academy of Dermatology's (AAD) Shade Structure Program awards grants for the purchase of permanent shade structures designed to provide shade and ultraviolet ray protection for outdoor areas. AAD also provides a permanent sign to be displayed near the shade structure that promotes the importance of sun safety.
Grants of $8,000 will be awarded. To be considered for grants, applicants must be a nonprofit organization or public school that primarily serves children and teens 18 and younger; demonstrate an ongoing commitment to sun safety and skin cancer awareness by having a sun safety/skin cancer awareness program in place for at least one year prior to application; and be sponsored by an AAD member dermatologist.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation - Health Impact Project

The Health Impact Project, a collaboration of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The Pew Charitable Trusts, encourages the use of health impact assessment (HIA) to help decision-makers better assess proposed policies, projects and programs with respect to their impact on health in order to avoid adverse health consequences and costs and improve health Up to 15 grants will be awarded during this round of funding. Grants will range from $25,000 to $150,000 and must be completed within 24 months.

South Texas FQHCs Receiving ARRA (Stimulus) Grants
Up to $39 million in federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grants from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services for renovation and construction of facilities for low-income patients have been awarded to health clinics in San Antonio, Brownsville, Harlingen, and El Paso as part of nearly $600 million in awards for 85 community health centers.
Facilities receiving the grants are:
El Centro Del Barrio Inc. clinic, San Antonio, $11 million;
Brownsville Community Health Center, $7.5 million;
Project Vida Health Center, El Paso, $6 million;
Su Clinica Familiar, Harlingen, $7.5 million.
