who we are

We are 65 unique United Methodist congregations, located in communities along the I-35 corridor from Pflugerville to San Marcos. We meet downtown, next door, and off-the-beaten path. Our congregations range in size from 5 members to 2500 members. Some of us worship in buildings that have achieved landmark status and others worship with the buzz of new construction in our ears.

But our church is not a building. Our church is a people-a people at work in the world through outreach and service. We are 65 congregations as diverse and imperfect and beautiful as the people we serve.

We take the united in United Methodist seriously. We believe that our differences only strengthen our need for connection and community. The apostle Paul compared the church-the body of Christ-to our own bodies. Just as we have eyes and hands and feet, the church has many members, each with individual gifts and strengths, but we are all connected through our desire for a loving relationship with God and our belief that we must be at work in the world.

If you are currently seeking a faith community, contact us for more information about any of our 65 churches or visit the Find a Church Home section of this website.

If you are church professional or a member of a United Methodist congregation in our area, you will find more information about the education events, service opportunities, and other ministries of the Austin District. We also offer links to our conference and the global United Methodist connection.

The Austin District serves as a point of connection between congregations and community members. We are a church made up of many different people who worship in unique and lively congregations, but as one body, we strive to be the eyes and hands and feet of Christ in our world.
